Quadrupling down on Montréal: four AI investments announced at WSAI

A new era of AI geared towards commercialization is emerging in Montréal

April 15, 2025

Montréal’s artificial intelligence ecosystem welcomes four AI investments from U.S. (3) and Canadian (1) companies behind technologies that boost performance in a wide range of sectors, from senior care to accounting to translation, and much more! Combined, these investment projects will create as many as 220 high quality jobs over the next three years in the city.

The announcement was made during the 2025 edition of the Montréal World Summit AI by Montréal International, the region’s economic promotion agency, alongside representatives from the four companies: Alexa Translations, Ampliwork, SafelyYou and Terzo.

“The technologies these four companies are developing have the potential to enhance our economy’s productivity, one of the most pressing challenges faced in Greater Montréal and all of Québec. We’re very proud to see Montréal’s expertise being put to work to advance AI with concrete solutions that are already being commercialized,” said Stéphane Paquet, President and CEO of Montréal International.

Ampliwork

Imagine an employee who is always available, who ensures that your company meets its regulatory requirements while executing complex tasks at scale. That’s where Ampliwork’s enterprise-grade, purpose-built AI agents come in. With hubs in the Boston-area, New York City, London (UK) and Montréal, the company develops a digital workforce that takes on tasks such as compliance, bill processing and proposal generation for its clients, freeing knowledge workers to focus on innovation.

As part of its continued growth, Ampliwork is expanding its Montréal operations to drive its global R&D efforts with up to 150 high-quality jobs to be created over the next three years. Montréal’s multilingual talent and strong technical ecosystem make it an ideal location to develop and scale agentic AI solutions for deployment across its key markets: the North America, Asia, and Europe. Agentic AI isn’t the future—it’s already here.

SafelyYou

In 2014, as a PhD student at the UC Berkley Artificial Intelligence Research Lab, George Netscher was concerned with the care provided to members of his family living with Alzheimer’s disease. His ambition to enhance senior care led him to develop the concept behind SafelyYou, an AI-powered detection and prevention system for senior homes to detect residents’ falls in real-time and provide comprehensive analysis to help prevent future events. Ten years later, the system supports no less than 750 senior living communities across North America, reducing fall-related visits to the emergency rooms by up to 80% amongst its users… a major upgrade for residents, their families, as well as the local first responders!

To support SafelyYou’s growth, the company turns to Montréal and its unique, highly qualified talent pool, with plans to hire up to 50 experts over the next three years. The team will handle the platform’s R&D as well as the deployment of the technology.

Terzo

Need a hand going through all these supplier contracts to see where you can cut in your company’s spending?

Founded in 2020 in California, Terzo’s AI-as-a-Service (AIaaS) platform extracts and processes financial data from financial documents such as invoice and contracts. The goal is to give the customer a better grasp on their financial and budgeting operations with accurate, data-driven analysis. The end goal? Enhance the clients’ financial performance, quickly!

Over the past five years, the startup has served many Fortune 500 companies, supported by teams based in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chennai (India) and Montréal. By the end of the year, the Montréal team will include a dozen AI and data engineers, analysts and researchers and other members. Their mandate is to develop Terzo’s French, Spanish and Portuguese functions to deploy it across European multinationals.

Alexa Translations

Montréal and Alexa Translations: multilingual by default, exceptional by choice.

Established in Toronto in 2002, Alexa Translations has entrusted its Montréal team with the further development of its AI translation platform. Launched in 2019, Alexa Translations’ underlying technology enables users to safely and securely translate legal, financial, government and other high-stakes regulatory or judicial documents directly on the Alexa Translations A.I. platform or through integrations with popular third-party software and proprietary client systems.

Designed to handle the nuances of the Canadian market, in both French and English, Alexa Translations’ AI effortlessly navigates Canadian realities and acronyms, from FHSAs to TFSAs, and RRSPs to RESPs. That fluency and specificity hasn’t gone unnoticed: Canada’s Big Five banks trust Alexa Translations for their translation needs. This Montréal expansion will create 10 new AI-focused roles to power the platform’s next phase of development.
