New measures to expand international talent pool and set up artificial intelligence international organization
2018–2019 Québec Economic Plan
Montréal International (MI) welcomes the Government of Québec’s strategic vision and new measures to expand the international talent pool in Greater Montréal and to set up a new AI international organization.
Attracting and retaining foreign talent
The Government of Québec allocated a $6.6-million budgetary envelope to MI to support its activities in recruiting foreign talent and retaining international students in the coming years. A newly added international student attraction component will also impact the Montréal economy.
“Foreign talent and students comprise a strategic labour force that we should further leverage to satisfy the increasing needs of Greater Montréal businesses,” said Hubert Bolduc, President and CEO of Montréal International. “Our actions will be coordinated to work with and complement the mission of higher education institutions in the area and will enhance existing efforts.”
New international organization
The Government of Québec has also earmarked $5 million in funding to MI to set up a new AI international organization, in collaboration with key players in the AI community. “This new organization will help reinforce Montréal’s status as a global AI hub and join the other 65 international organizations that have been shining a global spotlight on Montréal,” stated Mr. Bolduc.
Recall that in February, as part of the Québec Government’s future entrepreneurship action plan, MI was also tasked with attracting high-potential foreign entrepreneurs.
