More than 1,300 international students celebrate the start of the 2019 academic year
Through its “I choose Montréal” initiative, Montréal International and La Vitrine culturelle co-organized the Grand RDV des étudiants internationaux (International Students’ Homecoming) on October 4. More than 1,300 students gathered at the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts for this third edition.
An evening full of surprises
No sooner had they arrived than the students were invited to participate in the evening’s main game. Hundreds of student groups promptly shared photos on Instagram, with the hashtag #GrandRDV2019, inspired by one of the Museum’s many works of art. This activity gave them a chance to discover the Museum while listening to classical music played by the musicians of the Orchestre métropolitain who were present for the occasion.
Discovering Montréal’s businesses and startups
Four sponsoring partners were present during this Homecoming: BMO Financial Group, City of Montréal, Air Canada and Tourisme Montréal, all of whom laid on booths to present their various offers and services.
Students also had a glimpse of Greater Montréal’s creative side thanks to various startups such as HookMotion, Imagine360 and King of the hat. Lastly, several students won tickets offered by the Orchestre métropolitain, TOHU and VIA Rail thanks to different contests organized during this Homecoming event.
This annual back-to-school evening allowed international students to discover a little more of Greater Montréal through an unmissable cultural venue, the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts, and various companies and startups.
I choose Montréal organizes many activities throughout the year to support international students in their work and life projects in the city. In 2018, more than 37,000 international post-secondary students were present in the region when Montréal was elected best student city in the Americas for the third consecutive year (QS).
