The Future Earth story
Future Earth is a global network of scientists, researchers, and innovators dedicated to advancing knowledge and implementing solutions for sustainable development and climate change. The day-to-day operations of Future Earth are carried out by its secretariat, which is based in eight global hubs, including Montréal.
The founding of the Montréal hub in 2015 was a collaboration between Montréal International, the Fonds de recherche du Québec, Montréal’s academic institutions (Concordia University, McGill University, Université de Montréal, UQAM, INRS, ÉTS, Polytechnique), and the Ouranos climate research consortium.
Montréal International’s impact
- Attraction of Future Earth in Montréal in 2015: Montréal International mobilized the local academic and research ecosystem to support Montréal’s bid. Furthermore, MI played a key role in the adoption of a multi-hub structure that supported the launch of Future Earth’s Canadian hub in the city.
- Expansion support: Montréal International helped secure funding for Future Earth’s “Sustainability in the Digital Age” initiative, which aims to leverage Greater Montréal’s expertise in artificial intelligence to advance the cause of social justice and climate action in the digital age.
